COVID-19 Update - Singapore Land VTL via Causeway With Malaysia Announced

Singapore and Malaysia will kick off the land VTL (Vaccinated Travel Lane) scheme which will be implemented on 29 Nov 2021. Designated VTL buses will be used to transport travellers on both sides of the Causeway.

In the coming weeks, we will be expecting more travellers included in this scheme as well as travel via Tuas Second Link.

  • Who are prioritised in this land VTL arrangement scheme?

This VTL land arrangement is prioritised for workers visiting their families back home.

  • Who are allowed to travel under this scheme?

Only vaccinated citizens, permanent residents and long term pass holders of the country they are visiting are allowed to travel under this new land VTL arrangement.

  • How many COVID-19 tests are required and which type in order to travel under this scheme?

1 pre-departure professionally administered negative COVID-19 ART (antigen rapid test) or PCR test taken within 48 hours before travel is required to enter Singapore.

ART test upon arrival in Singapore is now required due to the new Omicron COVID-19 variant concern. 2 tests are also required to enter Malaysia.

  • What other documents do travellers need to submit?

Travellers are required to submit the SG Arrival Card with Electronic Health Declaration via the ICA website or through the SG Arrival Card mobile app prior to departure.

  • Is general travel under normal tourist visa allowed under this VTL land scheme?

Short term travellers under normal tourist visa are not allowed to travel under this scheme at the moment. However, the plan is to include them as well in the near future.

  • Which bus services will operate the Land VTL travel arrangement?

Transtar Travel will both operate bus services from Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange in Singapore and Larkin Sentral Bus terminal in Johor Bahru.

Handal Indah will operate bus services for the VTL land route between Larkin Sentral Bus terminal in Johor Bahru and Queen Street Terminal in Singapore.

Must book bus tickets at least 3 days in advance before departure date. An adult ticket costs $15.00 from Singapore to Malaysia and RM20.00 ($6.50) for the other direction.

COVID-19 Update - VTL With Indonesia Announced

Singapore will be launching a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) arrangement with Indonesia starting from 29 Nov 2021.

While the move will certainly boost air travel between the 2 countries (for Indonesian cities like Jakarta or Bali), sea travel such as ferry services to neighbouring Indonesian islands of Batam and Bintan are still closed for normal tourist visa.

Another thing is Indonesia has not opened its borders for quarantine-free travel from Singapore. That means you will still need to undergo mandatory quarantine upon arrival in Indonesia, regardless of vaccination status.
