The Suicide Cliff is a place in Saipan where hundreds of Japanese citizens committed suicide as American troops captured the island in the year 1944. The other cliff known for suicide is the Banzai Cliff. Saipan is the largest island of the capital of the United States Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, consisting of a chain of 15 tropical islands found in the Western Pacific Ocean.

Saipan is a famous tourist destination in the Pacific and a lot of Korean and Japanese celebrities visit the island either for advertisements, drama series or for leisure.

The Western side of the island has beautiful white sandy beaches with an offshore coral reef, together creating a big lagoon.

The Eastern shore however has rugged rocky cliffs with a reef which fringes the shore. Saipan's highest point is the extinct volcano of Mount Tapochau at 474 m (1,554 ft). During World War II, in June 15 1944, the U.S. Marines landed on the beaches of the island. They spent more than 3 weeks in fierce fighting against the Japanese. This famous historic battle is known as The Battle of Saipan.

This war engagement was dramatized in John Woo's 2002 film "Windtalkers." starring Nicholas Cage. Garapan is the largest village and the center of the tourism industry on the island.
