About Tioman Island

Tioman is the biggest and most impressive island at the east coast. A brusk jungle covered ridge, that is fringed with idyllic palmbeaches primarily at the west coast.

Through its size (39km long and 12 km wide) Tioman offers a wide range of activities to the visitor.
You can snorkel in crystal-clear water, explore the manifold underwaterworld during diving or just lie lazy at the beach in the shade of the palm trees.

Additionally the island offers still totally untouched jungle, which wants to be reconnoitred. The dense natural forest is a haven for birds, bats, mouse, deer, lizards and insects.

A Bit Of History

The discovery of Tioman is quite a time ago: The island supposed to be the setting for the mythical Bali Hai, the lonely magic island of the 1958 Hollywood movie South Pacific.

In the 70s the Time magazine selected Tioman as one of the world's most beautiful islands.

If Tioman is still (or was anytime) correctly rated as one the world' s most beautiful islands, maybe undecided, but anyway, it presents itself as paradise tropical island.

But sometimes you have to search for this paradise off the beaten track.

Diving In Tioman

Diving in tioman is an unforgettable experience. Among the favourite dive sites are Labas, Bahara, Jahat, Renggis, Tiger Reef and Malang Rock.

Ferries To Tioman From Mersing, Ferries From Tanjong Gemok To Tioman

Ferries from Mersing departs from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Traveling time ranges from 1 hour and 15 minutes (speedboats/ fast ferries) to 2 hours (ferries). All boats stop at our jetty at Kampong Paya.

How To Go To Tioman, Getting To Pulau Tioman

  •   By Air From Kuala Lumpur or Singapore
  •   Berjaya Air flies to Tioman (Takes approximately 50 minutes).
  •   Flights leaves Kuala Lumpur Subang Airport Terminal 3.
  •   And leaves from Singapore Seletar Airport.
  •   From Tioman Airport you will be met and transfer by speedboat to our resort.
  •   MR 40 per person (2 ways boat transfer) will be charged upon arrival.

Monkey Bay

Monkey bay located in between Salang and ABC village (about 10 minutes with speed boat fr the 2 villages). You can also go to Monkey bay by jungle trekking. Monkey bay has a long stretch of white sandy beach.

Marine Park

A Marine Park is an area of the sea zoned as a sanctuary for the coral reef community. The coral reef community is considered as possibly the most productive eco-system in the world, with its diversify of aquatic flora and fauna.

Coral reefs are also important breeding and nursery grounds for many commercially important species of marine organisms and fish. Marine Park Tioman is located at Tanjung Mesoh (about 15 min from Tekek jetty).

Tulai Island

Charming Island. A must destination for skin divers and snorkelers. Offer a perfect escape for Snorkellers and divers. The best time for diving is between March to November as the water is calm and the weather is beautiful.

Renggis Island

Renggis Island is located infront of Berjaya Tioman Resort. Only a few hundred meters from Berjaya jetty (lalang village). Average depth is 9m and max depth is 12m. This site is ideal for training and night dives.

Teeming underwater marine life encircles the tiny island. Common fish species includes Barracuda, yellow tail, stingray, Angel, Buffalo fish and Famed moray eels.

Harmless black tip sharks are often sighted.

Best Time To Go Tioman Island

The dry season in Tioman extends from March to October. The East Coast Monsoon is between November and February when the frequent rains are punctuated by intermittent sunshine. This is the cooler season. Temperatures year-round range from 21 degreesCelsius to 28 degrees Celsius.

Tioman Currency

The Local currency is RM(Ringgit Malaysia) and sen(cents) and its is convertible onto it is convertible into most major currencies. Foreign currencies can be converted at banks and money changers on the mainland. Common bank notes are in denominations of 100, 50, 20 and 10 Ringgit.

Tourists are free to bring in any amount of foreign currency or travelers cheques. However, tourists would need to seek approval if the amount of foreign currency to be carried abroad exceeds the amount brought into Malaysia and if the amount to be taken out is more than the equivalent of USD2500.

Tourists must also obtain permission and declare ringgit exceeding RM1000 being brought into or out of Malaysia.

Entry Requirements

Visitors to Malaysia must be in possession of a valid passport (at least 6 months) or travel document with a minimum validity of six months beyond the intended visiting period. Most nationalities do not require visas for social or business visits.

Money

There are currently no ATMs on Tioman. However we accept Master and Visa credit cards. Not all resorts on Tioman offer this facility.

If you are planning on travelling outside of our resort it is advisable to change some currency on the mainland.

Health

It is not necessary to take malaria tablets or vaccination for yellow fever, but if you are in doubt, please consult your doctor or family physician.

Getting Around Tioman Island

Tioman is a relatively undeveloped island - getting around is done mostly by trekking or by sea taxi.

Motion Sickness

There are different kinds of medicines that can treat motion sickness. If you are prone to seasick, prepare anti-motion sickness pills which are available at local drugstores.

A good tip would be : While at sea, try not to focus on one object because it disturb the co-ordination between your eyes and brains. Try looking around at the beautiful view. Sucking a sweet lemon may also help.

Eating out

Local food normally is hot and spicy. Before you eat ask the chef not to put some hot stuff like chili, pepper, etc.

Tipping

Tipping is not a common practice. So you don't have to give tip after your meal, etc. Generally if you want to give a tip, the amount is usually RM1.

Telephone

Local calls can be made from public phones using coins or pre-paid cards. International calls can be made from public phones with card phone facilities or at any Telekom offices.

The People

Friendly, warmth, Easy going and hospitality is assured.

Language

Malay is the native tongue but English is widely spoken.

Eight hours ahead of GMT and 16 hours ahead of U.S. Pacific Standard Time.
