Penang has a mouthwatering mix of specialties born of its past as a port for the spice trade. The classic dish is Penang laksa, a spicy, sour noodle dish.

On the east coast, hit the night market in Kota Bharu, with its staunchly Malay food. The dish not to miss is nasi kerabu, with its distinctive blue-colored rice.

In Kuala Terengganu, fish dishes are popular. Snack on epok epok - pastries filled with fried fish and coconut.
Melaka is justly famed for its Nonya cuisine, a hybrid of traditional Chinese and Malay culinary styles. You can also have fun trying stay celup, the local version of fondue.

Although you may be feeling quite full by this stage, don't miss the sumptuous culinary smorgasbord that is Singapore. Chicken rice, chilli crab, satay and a whole host of other heavenly dishes are a must.
